What started out as a freedom movement by a few Canadian truckers, wound up as a group of hooligans trying to ‘strong arm’ the Canadian government into their point of view.
Justin Trudeau is the legally selected Prime Minister of Canada, and endowed with certain powers under the laws of Canada. Part of the Canadian Emergencies Act states,‘Emergencies Act R.S.C., 1985, c. 22 (4th Supp.)’“3 For the purposes of this Act, a national emergency is an urgent and critical situation of a temporary nature that
· (a) seriously endangers the lives, health or safety of Canadians and is of such proportions or nature as to exceed the capacity or authority of a province to deal with it, ….” —- https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/e-4.5/page-1.html
Seemingly, many Canadians ‘health and safety’ were in endangered by the actions of the truckers of the convoy. According to Catharine Tunney of the CBC, February 14 article, ‘Federal government invokes Emergencies Act for first time ever in response to protests, blockades’,
“Demonstrators have erected tents, a stage, a large video screen and even a hot tub on various streets — including Wellington Street, which runs in front of the Parliament Buildings and the Prime Minister’s Office.
Ottawa police said ‘safety concerns’ — including ‘aggressive, illegal behaviour’ by demonstrators — are to blame for the ‘limited police enforcement capabilities.’
A blockade of the Ambassador Bridge in Windsor, Ont., a key supply link between Canada and the U.S., was dispersed by police earlier Sunday, with 12 arrests.” ———–https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/trudeau-premiers-cabinet-1.6350734
If people using hot tubs in the parliamentary section of Ottawa is not a ‘health and safety’ concern, in from of Canada’s Congressional buildings, a national emergency, then the blockage of the Windsor Ambassador bridge was an international emergency, and only Trudeau acted, not Biden. 400 to 500 protest trucks in Ottawa itself.
Trudeau waited more than two weeks in event that the protests may subside, but events were getting worse and worse, before announcing his use of Emergencies Act on February 14, 2022. Does this sound like tyranny, or openmindedness? Canadian Parliament gave Trudeau its blessing to use the Act, Feb 21, 2022 seven days in accordance with Canadian law.
Before that, around February 11, Ontario Premier Doug Ford called for a state of emergency in Ontario,
“Ontario Premier Doug Ford said the province’s emergency order would apply to anyone impeding the movement of goods, people and services along international border crossings, airports, ports and major highways.
The Canadian province will also provide additional authority so that the personal and commercial licences of protesters who do not comply may be cancelled…… Premier Ford’s Friday announcement marks the first state of emergency in the province since April, when Ontario implemented its third emergency order over Covid-19 transmission.”—- in the article ‘Trucker protests: Ontario calls state of emergency’, 11 February, 2022 — https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-60352980
Doug Ford moved to act before Trudeau, and little media criticism there. What started out as a protest against vaccine mandates, ended up as a hooligan effort to cripple the economy of a nation. You can’t do that, and certainly not in the United States. Canada will go after the hooligans who helped organized this ‘protest’.
“King was arrested on Friday and faces charges of mischief, counselling to commit mischief, counselling to commit the offence of disobeying a court order and counselling to obstruct police.
Tamara Lich, who lives in Medicine Hat, Alta., was arrested last Thursday and charged with counselling to commit mischief.
In addition to holding Lich in custody, Bourgeois ordered Lich to have no contact with King or other convoy organizers Benjamin Dichter, Christopher Barber and Daniel Bulford.” https://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/key-convoy-organizer-tamara-lich-denied-bail-while-patrick-king-appears-in-court-1.5790773
Don’t make Trudeau’s invocation of the Emergencies Act anything more than what you see on the surface. To do so, is to flame fears in the Canadian and American public, that should not be flamed. Truckers bank accounts are being unfrozen, and other ‘time-limited’ punishments and sanctions will be lifted. As Doug Ford said,
“Your right to make a political statement does not outweigh hundreds of thousands of workers to earn their living,”
