The Twitter Files have stalled in their delivery to the world. Information has been interpreted all week on the show, and I decided to use the holding pattern to clarify a larger question. Was there enough released to be concerned that Twitter and the government violated first amendment rights? Paul Engel is a constitutional scholar with an expertise in applying the law to the headlines.
The First Amendment provides that Congress make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting its free exercise. It protects freedom of speech, the press, assembly, and the right to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. The Bill of Rights guarantees that the government can never deprive people in the U.S. of certain fundamental rights, including the right to freedom of religion and to, free speech, and the due process of law.
Conversations are important for the clarification of facts and justification of opinions. Society would function better if we searched for answers instead of confirmation bias. Today’s show is a great example of dialogue and honesty in assessing the headlines in the media.
