Free speech is under attack by Big Tech ⏤ like Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube. Lately, Twitter has been the subject of much conversation, for the social media giant has been instrumental in playing a big role in the 2020 election, where it shut down the voices of conservatives in favor of liberal ideology. The company has even gone as far as to kick former President Donald Trump off its platform but allowed Vladimir Putin, Louis Farrakhan, and other radicals to remain. This blatant shutdown of the free speech of conservatives could change if the company is taken over by Elon Musk, who is an advocate of free speech, but that is a big “IF.”

Who is Elon Musk? He is not a conservative or a liberal. Neither is he a Democrat nor a Republican. Who is Musk? Musk is an American billionaire and the richest man in the world at the moment, who believes in the First Amendment and what it says about freedom of speech.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” Amendment 1 of the United States Constitution

While Congress hasn’t necessarily created laws to prohibit our free speech, they have sat idly by while Big Tech has used their platforms and Sec 230 of the Communication Decency Act, enacted by the 104th United States Congress, to slowly take away free speech. It seems the only hope in keeping free speech alive and free for all is through the actions of Musk, who has submitted a bid to buy Twitter and take it private. According to Musk, taking over the company and retooling it would allow for free speech to be free as it should be.

Unfortunately, the world’s richest man’s offer has been met with much consternation and not just from Twitter, who would rather keep free speech elusive for some, but from the DOJ and SEC. This revelation is quite concerning, considering we live in a free-market society, and one would think those government agencies would want to protect free speech and ideas to be free for all.
