Santayana was right, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” In America, not only can we not remember our past, but we seem actively to refuse to do so. When I study the Declaration of Independence, I was amazed at how much the government in Washington, D.C. today resembles the one in London in 1776. Yet, it seems the American people simply will not recognize this fact. Because of that, we are suffering the same indignities, the same violation of our rights that caused our Founding Fathers to go to war. I’m not saying we need to overturn the government in Washington, D.C., but as Abraham Lincoln said, “The people are the rightful masters of both congresses and courts, not to overturn the Constitution, but to overturn the people who pervert it.” There’s a whole lot of perverting the Constitution these days. Will, the American people remember their past before their only chance of restoring rights and liberty to America is a war?
