Throughout the western world, and particularly in Canada and the United States, weak conservative politicians have yielded to the climate scare, thinking that opposing it will lead to electoral defeat. But this makes no sense. Grassroots conservatives everywhere yearn for a leader who will tell the truth — a 1.2 degree C rise in “global average temperature” is not a climate emergency. The rise in atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2), the gas that the United Nations and their political allies want to be curtailed, is beneficial to humankind and the environment and results in the greening of planet Earth, giving us the greater crop yield we need to feed our growing population.

Take the current campaign for leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada, for example. With the exception of Ontario Member of Provincial Parliament Roman Baber, who is, at least so far, relatively neutral on the topic, every candidate for leader is apparently either directly or indirectly supporting the climate scare. Even front-runner Pierre Poilievre, an otherwise fearless Member of Parliament from the eastern Ontario riding of Carleton, in his keynote speech at his “Axe the Carbon Tax” rally in Ottawa on Thursday, promoted using technology as a replacement of a tax on CO2, highlighting so-called carbon capture and storage, a boondoggle that does nothing to reduce climate change but leads to huge increases in power costs. Poilievre also promoted providing natural gas to the world so they could shut down coal-fired power plants, a serious mistake in an increasingly unstable world that needs the reliability provided by energy sources that store their fuel on-site. He indirectly promoted electric vehicles while promising that Canada would develop its lithium resources for EV battery manufacturing, apparently unaware of the myriad problems a mass transition to EVs will bring about. And candidates such as Jean Charest and Patrick Brown are far worse, making statements and championing policies that simply perpetuate the climate scare.

Conservatives must listen to our interviewee this week, Douglas Pollock, a civil industrial engineer from the University of Chile, who shows what happened in his country when its governments yielded to the climate scare. Nothing short of disaster ensued in competitiveness, economic growth, employment, energy security, freedom, and even personal safety when the country erupted in protest about its declining standard of living. Pollock has written widely in his country, and spoken at conferences around the world to explain the devastating economic impact of Chile’s wrong-headed policies. His efforts to warn institutions about the unnecessary harm that fighting climate change is causing resulted in his views being banned in Chile and throughout Latin America. Thankfully, our listeners can still hear his cautionary tale.
