“A question. Since before your sun burned hot in space and before your race was born, I have awaited a question. ” — Star Trek, The City on the Edge of Forever, Aired April 6, 1967.

While I haven’t waited quite that long, I have waited for a question. A visitor to the website asked, “How can a federal judge temporally suspend a state law?” That is an excellent question, but I don’t think most people will like the answer. The visitor explicitly asked about the federal judge who placed an injunction against Texas Senate Bill S.B.8, which generally allows people to sue doctors who perform an abortion once a heartbeat is detected. Today, I’ll answer how that can happen, not just with the Texas law but also a California law phasing out the use of private, for-profit prisons within their state. While those who topics deal with overreaches of the federal judiciary, I then look at federal overreach in general, both the use of the FBI to intimidate parents and OSHA into demanding employees be vaccinated. It’s not enough to know how these overreaches can occur; I will also discuss what we must do if we wish to remain free.
