This week Ketanji Brown Jackson is appearing before the Senate for her Supreme Court confirmation hearings. It’s a safe bet to say she will be confirmed and become the third black and the first black woman to sit on the high court. Joe Biden had already promised his base, during the election of 2020, that if elected president he would nominate a black woman to the high court. He is now fulfilling his promise.
While Biden has every right to select the person he thinks would best serve the high court, the way he went about it not only taints the process, but also makes light of Jackson’s achievements and qualifications as a jurist.
The hosts of After Dark are not surprised Biden reduced and diminished the Harvard-educated lawyer’s success with identity politics by nominating her because she is a black woman. They see this as being part of the left’s playbook when they set out to do anything. That said, the host, admonishes Republican senators to not allow this to stop them from questioning Jackson’s legal record, out of fear of being called a racist or challenging a woman’s ability.
The American people have a right to know what type of judge Jackson will be. Every Supreme Court nominee before her has had their law records reviewed and questioned by the senate, and Jackson’s should be no different.
