In June 1815, Napoleon Bonaparte was defeated at the Battle of Waterloo. It essentially marked the end of his rule as Emperor of France.

Even before the tragic events of last week when we lost more than a dozen U.S. military personnel to a suicide bomber, it was already not looking good for the Biden Administration to be able to evacuate all American citizens from Afghanistan by the self-imposed August 31st deadline that Biden himself had set. And in fact, at roughly midnight on that date, the United States loaded up and hit the road, not looking back.

That’s probably a good thing. Had they looked back they would have seen hundreds of Americans, as well as thousands of our Afghan allies pleading for help and begging to not be left behind. Left behind to a near-certain very grim future. Or in many cases to no future at all.

The Taliban’s brutality was on full display in the years prior to America’s invasion of Afghanistan in 2001, following the September 11th terrorist attacks against our country that originated in that Southwest Asian nation. The Taliban’s treatment of women and girls was especially oppressive and brutal. Nothing, absolutely nothing, indicates that now that they are back in power that they will be any different than they were before.

The Taliban is a sick, twisted, and depraved ideology, along with their terrorist allies Al Qaeda. And while there may be no love between the Taliban and the other terrorist grouping ISIS-K that is using Afghanistan as a base of operations, one thing they do share is a hatred of America. And a willingness to see attacks occur in our country, perhaps as soon as the 20 year anniversary of the September 11th attacks Al Qaeda committed against us.

Calling our departure from Afghanistan anything but a colossal failure would be a lie. It is also an invitation to our enemies around the world to exploit our failure as not just a perceived weakness, but in fact under this current administration as a very real weakness.

As expected, Joe Biden’s flacks are bragging about the airlift that supposedly evacuated over one hundred thousand people, and are ignoring the utter and complete failure of our departure under Biden’s leadership.

What they don’t tell you is that the number of people who’ve been evacuated doesn’t matter in the least. What matters is if we left even one single American behind. THAT’S what matters. Americans don’t leave other Americans behind.

But this administration is made up of quite a few people who were part of Barack Obama’s administration, so they have experience at leaving Americans behind. Ask Tyrone Woods, Glen Dougherty, Sean Smith, and Ambassador Christopher Stevens. Along with the few dozen CIA employees who were abandoned in Benghazi.

Will anyone be held accountable for this massive military blunder? Well, they should be, but likely they won’t. In an earlier time, those in charge wouldn’t have had to be fired, they would have manned up and tendered their resignation and assumed all responsibility.

Considering those in the Biden Administration I’m not going to hold my breath. What’s far more likely is that Biden and his minions will point the finger at the previous administration as they always do. It was all Trump’s fault. But that simply won’t wash this time.

This debacle is all on Joe Biden and his administration. It is their complete failure. And it WILL be Biden’s Waterloo.
